Tooth staining is a common dental concern caused by a variety of factors. While some may associate tooth discoloration with poor oral hygiene, even individuals who maintain regular brushing and flossing habits can experience staining. Factors such as smoking, aging, genetics, and certain medications can all contribute to discoloration. If you notice tooth stains, consider reaching out to Washington Elite Dentistry. In many cases, simple lifestyle changes or professional-grade whitening treatments can significantly enhance the appearance of your smile. Dr. Caroline Berman in Washington, DC, will help identify the underlying cause of your tooth discoloration and recommend a personalized treatment plan to achieve noticeable results.
How Are Stained Teeth Treated?
There are a few options for addressing tooth staining. The most popular include:
- Teeth whitening: This involves employing a lightening concentration to take obvious stains off the teeth. This may be done at the dentist's office or with take-home kits.
- Dental bonding: This involves the use a composite material on the surface of the teeth to conceal stains and discoloration.
- Veneers: These are lightweight, personalized coverings bonded to the front of the teeth to enhance their appearance.
- Crowns: These are tooth-shaped caps that are placed over the entire tooth to improve its aesthetics and safeguard it from further harm.
Washington Elite Dentistry Reviews
I've been seeing Dr. Berman in the past ~ 8 years, and have had a wonderful experience. She and her staff are super competent, professional, and are very pleasant.
I had a couple of issues and had to get it checked by the dentist ASAP ! Made my appointment through a friend! She highly recommended the Washington Elite Dentistry ! The front desk was able to squeeze me on the same day since it was emergency-thank you, Michelle! Dr Berman took a first look, and she was very clear about what was going on and what should be done. We did x-rays and ct scan on site. After her, Dr. Khashayar checked me as well, and he clarified situations about my implants. Any future work from now on I am doing here! Thank you
Dr. Berman and staff are wonderful! They try to make the experience as pleasant as possible. I've been going there for about 15 years now. Of all the dentist in DC and the DMV that I could visit for service, my wife and I keep going back to Washington Elite Dentistry. I think that says it all.
Great dentist and hygienists here! The whole office is very high tech and the people are very personable.
Amazing staff from front desk to dentist. And Marina is the BEST hygentist I've ever experienced. Literally retaught me how to take care of my teeth and gums. Highly recommend!

What Causes Stained Teeth?
Several aspects may allow your smile to become darkened. These involve:
- Regular behaviors involve smoking and consuming tea, coffee, red wine, and soda.
- Improper oral routines may result in the accumulation of plaque and tartar on teeth.
- Certain medications, including antibiotics, antihistamines, and hypertension medications.
- The aging process, since the outer covering erodes over the years and shows the yellowish dentin beneath.
- Genetics, because some individuals might have naturally darker or sparse enamel.
What Are The Symptoms Of Stained Teeth?
The most noticeable sign of tooth staining is a change in color, with teeth appearing yellow, brown, or even gray. This discoloration can impact confidence, leading some individuals to feel self-conscious about their teeth and hesitant to laugh or smile openly in social settings.
